Thinking about Crestron Digital Media brought me to this youtube video for Panduit Opticam fiber termination system. WOW!

I found this link at AVSforum.com. Its a great step-bystep article by http://www.xsdesignstudios.com that explains : How to setup an iPhone to control a Crestron system. I wish Crestron would put something like this together for every touchpanel.

I have been busy with http://www.guijaboard.com but now that i have a break i wanted to post this video. This is a very cool product.

When will it end? Crestron continues to blow my mind every single day. This is the first time i regret missing CEDIA. From the looks of it you can retro HDMI and control to any room that you can get a piece of finishing line to. This will be great for upgrading old systems that have display locations that are not wired for HDMI.

The HD-TX1-F and HD-RX1-F (send and receive units) also send RS-232 and IR simultaneously.

I did an installation in LA where the contractor on the project used Acoustiblok to isolate a home theater that was built on the 2nd floor. I had never heard of it and it looked like rubber roofing material to me. I could not believe how well the product worked. With the system off you experienced complete silence in the room because the rest of the home was kept out. You couldn’t tell when the system was on if you were not in the theater. During a recent follow up visit for upgrades the client told me how they spend a good deal of time in the theater with the system off because its so relaxing and quiet.

RTI has finally decided to add sexy to their large panel line up. The T4 looked like some sort of Radio Shack DIY mod.

I downloaded Prodigy Composer a couple days ago and quickly went thru setting up a fake system. I spent about an hour configuring a 4 zone system with a hand held remote, an in-wall touchscreen an iphone & xpanel interface. I added lighting and climate control also. When i was done i was able to open it in System Builder to polish it up. I don’t have the hardware to test with yet so i don’t know if i am really done programming after an hour. The Destiny template looks very nice. It appears to operate just like a System Builder generated system. While i wont be able to comment on functionality just yet, i have to say that programming was quite painless.

If prodigy had a plug and play CCTV camera and door bell-intercom solution i could spec it for a good portion of the projects i install. Another thing i would like to see is a wireless touchscreen. If Apple ever puts out a 7 or 9 inch touchpanel it would be a perfect add on for prodigy.

I am happy to see a wizard based system from Crestron. From the looks of it Crestron dealers will no longer have to look elsewhere for… well for anything. According to this CEPro article “A Prodigy system starts at about $825 for the controller, remote and wireless gateway (optional, but you’ll want it)”. This puts prodigy in line for entry level systems that we would have quoted other control systems for.
